...my Junior lit. teacher brought up a very good point during a class discussion yesterday -- Is life real, or is everything just there because we're told it's there?
Think about it; We're told things look a certain way, but how do we know that it's all real, how do you know the computer in front of you is real? How do you know PG is real? How do you know the chair you're sitting in is real? How do you know you're real? We're told VERY early in life that things look a certain way, that people act a certain way, and that we're supposed to act a certain way; but how do we know that everything about us isn't just there because we're told it is? Reality has long been questioned as far as what is actually real, so is it possible that nothing's real, and that we're all sub-consciously just accepting what we're told?
Myself, I belive that there's a reality somewhere, but that this isn't it. I certainly don't see reality as a place where you worship higher powers or believe in fictitious gods/creatures just because people say they've seen them. There's got to be more to it than that, life just isn't that simple. I stopped believing in "god" a while ago, simply because I never knew him to be real...I was just told 'he' was there. This is a similar question to ponder -- We all believe that everything around us is there because we're told it is...if we stopped believing in it, would everything just vanish? Would we wake up to see the true reality of 'life'? It certainly makes you think...ponder it...respond...deeply discuss...
